Pros

Mostly everyone is friendly and nice. The managers at my store were very understanding & would help with any availability changes or issues that had to be resolved instead of just telling people they had to find someone to cover it if they wanted it covered. You could be trained in any area of the store you wanted to pick up more hours, and if there was a part of the store you didn't like working and you communicated that to the manager they would do their best to accommodate. Good discount at WokBox for lunch at my store. Small discount at all TJX stores. Potential for winning extra money for the store fund, yourself, or double discounts depending on store performance. Flexible hours & good breaks. Very simple & easy RTO & Switch Shifts forms. Awesome dress code! Relatively easy to become a supervisor & lots of opportunities to move up within the company, if that's your thing. Optional benefits, lots of employee resources & support. Some write offs go to charity! Lots of markdowns to shop!

Cons

Management (store manager) could be extremely uptight about the store, almost a bit obsessive. They were very driven to get good numbers for the store, and they enjoyed winning district contests, which could make the SM very nitpicky about how they wanted everything to look. The store policies regarding tagging and coding would change seasonally, which was extremely annoying. Various other policies & procedures would change and you wouldn't know because they don't post the changes anywhere, and you're only really encouraged to check them in the books when you're unsure of something, or seasonally. Loss Prevention policy feels a lot like profiling to me. Regarding a specific policy I had asked around the store about, I was told by half the people I asked about it that we don't do it at all and half the people that we should if we can at that moment. Another case of the SM wanting to win & get good numbers, the policy was that we don't do that, but they wanted excellent numbers so they had us do it which is understandable but when I ask WHAT the policy actually SAYS I would love a straight answer. And half the associates & supervisors were also misinformed by the SM. Also, high turnover and a LOT of the newbies don't care to know the policies because they already know they're going to quit in 2 weeks. A lot of write offs of perfectly sanitary & usable items have to be destroyed according to policy.
