Pros

1) Industry-average health insurance coverage with the cost split between you and the employer. 2) An in-depth group training from basics to specifics in telecom was earnestly attempted, which is commendable.

Cons

MasTec's website advertises their CEO Jose Mas' 2012 appearance on the TV show Undercover Boss. This gave me a false bright outlook on their company values, and my initial excitement about joining this company was gone once I spent time as an employee. Pay offered is an industry-low level for the work they expect. Mass-hiring in a panic for a large project. Disorganized IT process, from getting equipment to work remotely, to setting up accounts and logins. No visibility of which market you're being hired for until late into the process, with no opportunity to meet your director or program manager. Who I was originally told I'd be report to was not who I would be reporting to once I started. Direct management was unaware of the two-week group training program at onboarding, and was frustrated that I wasn't producing immediately. When I voiced my concerns about my experience in this role, they explained their strategy is to hire one or two people, then train and hire more people over the coming months, despite knowing the large amount of work they were contracted to do by the customer. This poor strategy allows projects to get behind, the customer to become frustrated, and the internal team to become overloaded. The right amount of people for the project scope should be hired, and have everyone trained together, versus new employees training other new employees every few weeks. Dumping a workload on a new employee, then transferring those established business relationships and project knowledge to new employees is not efficient or effective. A majority of employees and management have been with MasTec for ten or more years, and it seems the dysfunction is a way of ensuring job security, whether consciously or subconsciously. Insights from new employees with years of experience in the industry were not welcome, and ultimately met with hostility and condescension by management. Due to the lack of employees to manage the workload, there isn't much time for process improvement. There was supposed to be a 30, 60 and 90-day new employee survey, but I only received a 30-day survey. I also didn't receive any form of exit interview, and had to reach out to them after two weeks to return their IT equipment.
