Pros
Great work/life balance - you can be a parent and be a professional. Working in Information Systems, you have the chance to work as part of a true "enterprise" - it's not just a buzzword, you really get to support mission-critical systems that affect thousands of users, and be a valued player on an effective team. As a science-based organization, there is better respect for technology than you will find in the IT departments of most non-technology companies.
Cons
Working in a technical role is very much being a cog in the machine. You can have your voice heard on purely technical decisions, which is good, and there are chances to (passively) learn about the business issues of Healthcare IT, which is interesting, but it's very difficult to make an impact beyond the predefined scope of the project you're assigned to.
