Pros
A lot of smart and dedicated people, exposure to academic medicine, opportunities to learn new technology/applications, great work/life balance, management is generally supportive about personal situations and flexible work arrangements (school, family, etc), comprehensive benefits and time off
Cons
Organization is generally slow to move/make decisions, management is generally non-confrontational with unproductive employees and will let them stay in a role rather than fire them, tenure is rewarded over talent and drives a lot of smart people out of the company, very little movement in management ranks so you may "top out" sooner rather than later, promotions are often based on management favoritism, 2% annual raise whether you are a high performer or a slacker
