Pros

Mastery has welcomed me with opened arms and will always be family to me. I was a student from 7th through 12th grade and to come back be an educator is a full circle moment. Mastery is an organization of opportunity and has a large network of support.

Cons

Limited space in the building. One thing I wanted to bring to Shoemaker was a Puma Pantry, one that could be set up as a hub for students to get supplies, snacks, toiletries, clothes and more. It would a hub where staff and family could donate. I also wanted to find away for students to use merits to purchase items. However, that wasn’t able to happen this school year because there wasn’t a single available room in the building. As testing coordinator, I noticed how this created challenges when it comes to having a secured testing room or even in situations where teachers may need to move classrooms.

Thanks so much for your feedback. It's so great to hear about your journey at Mastery - first as a student and now as an educator dedicated to your students. We strive to provide opportunities for all staff, and students, to grow and push themselves with our support and resources. We appreciate your ideas on how to improve our campuses, and think the Puma Pantry is a great idea and shows your commitment to serving our students and their families. We understand your concerns about limited space, and will lift that up to the team. Additionally, thank you for your insights on leadership development and congratulations on being greenlit to serve as an your promotion to APO! We agree that hands-on opportunities for greenlit candidates could help create a smoother transition, and this is a suggestion we'll definitely be bringing to our leadership team. We're so grateful to have you apart of Mastery and appreciate all that you do!

Pros

Mastery is a great place to work. There hasn't been an adult I've encountered who didn't believe in the mission and wasn't wholeheartedly committed to doing right and well by students and their families. The Mastery team believes in working for ALL students and not leaving any student behind. The team is committed to its values, and I'm excited to be part of such an incredible group of mission-aligned people.

Cons

The evaluation system and process for the NST staff are antiquated and not relevant to the people doing the work. It is time for a change.

Pros

I have worked in several districts, and this has been my favorite so far under the current administration. I feel supported, and more importantly, I feel that teacher feedback is actually heard. Leadership regularly asks for input and you can see real efforts to improve based on what staff say. They model many of the same expectations they set for teachers. The job is demanding, but the support makes the workload manageable. I never feel like I am handling challenges alone. There is also a genuine effort to bring some joy and humor into the school day, which matters more than people realize during a busy year. The staff culture is another strength — colleagues are collaborative, approachable, and easy to get along with.

Cons

At times there can be a disconnect between building-level needs and expectations from central administration. Communication is improving, but sometimes you have to ask questions in order to fully understand procedures, and information is not always located in one clear place. That said, I have seen noticeable improvement over the years, and leadership does appear to be working toward better clarity and consistency.
