Pros
Matheson Tri-Gas is a large company, and is able to be competitive in the market in most areas of the packaged gas/bulk business. Many of the employees have been working in the chemicals industry for most/all of their careers, so they are very knowledgeable, and they made themselves available for anyone who had needed help. Benefits package - 401k with partial company match after 90 days employment - Affordable healthcare options, including dental and vision.
Cons
Company culture: - Would regularly hear offensive language, racial slurs, sexist comments spoken by coworkers and customers - Low level of diversity of employees - Employees on the branch-level were extremely negative and very resistant to new ideas. - Large divide between sales division and operations division - Matheson grew by buying out many smaller companies, so every branch seemed to do things differently, which led to confusion. Many employees complained about working for Matheson vs their old employer who Matheson bought out, even though some of the acquisitions were 5+ years ago. Resistance to implement new technologies/methods on the business side of things: -Many inefficiencies, for example spreadsheets were often passed around, edited by multiple parties, and sent to someone else to compile all the results. There are certainly more efficient ways of exchanging information in 2017. - Also, all sales required a physical, paper ticket before they could be processed and billed. These are just two examples, but I felt as if I was not learning skills that would be needed to be a productive worker in the 21st century. Overall I would not recommend working for Matheson at the branch level.
