Pros

Except the fact that this economy is so bad and we all need to work, there are absolutely NO PROS to working for Maximus at the Maryland Health Exchange project.

Cons

I will start with the management team who are disrespectful, rude and inappropriate. There are managers on this project that yell at employees as if they are children and then you have a male trainer that addresses female employees as "sweetie" and "baby" in the classroom. There is also an issue of constantly reminding employees who are hired by temp agencies that they are expendable. Comments like "It only takes a phone call for you to be fired" are the norm at the Maryland Health Exchange. There are not enough computers or work space to accommodate the number of people working there and the training process is unorganized and extremely condensed. I will not even begin to comment on how loose the management team is with their use of profanity.

Pros

Remote, adequate training and guidance and usually everything /software works - minus regular hiccups.

Cons

Not too many - a few misunderstanding s about training classes and roles but overall, not bad.

Pros

Had a few really exceptional coworkers

Cons

One reason I was hired was to bring in new ideas and work approaches; however, when I tried implementing anything new, some of the “old school higher-ups” would balk and were never open to anything new or better. My management just looked the other way and didn’t support me. As for training, I wasn’t offered much in the way of onboarding other than being told to read a lengthy “standard operating procedures” document. No real opportunities were offered to shadow anyone so I could learn in real-time. A typical work week was 60+ hours and often stretched to 70+. It was exhausting and demoralizing. The job was not sustainable and I’ve never been more relieved to be done with a place. I cannot recommend Maximus as a place to grow your skills or to give your time. Turnover seems to be relatively high at Maximus and there are far better places to work.
