Pros

McDonald's is an exciting brand to work for with the global reach and presence. When I joined the company in 2019 it truly felt like the "McFamily" culture many who have ketchup in their veins preach. There are amazing benefits working for the company including 401k match, stock equity, and tenure based additional vacation time. The pay is also aligned with the market.

Cons

Favoritism and cliques made the Global People function feel extremely immature. Promotions were not based on merit or work product, rather who you were friends with. There were many People initiatives that were extremely unorganized and felt chaotic. Many prioritization and work eliminating efforts like offshoring parts of the HR team to Mexico City and India actually ended up adding more work to everyone's plates. Leadership took no accountability outwardly to the negative outcomes of some of these initiatives and instead would blame the HR team for not adopting, but behind closed doors admitted to the lack of planning and change management.

Leadership experience – Supervised and trained kitchen staff, delegated tasks, and ensured smooth operations during busy periods. Food safety expertise – Gained experience following strict food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (HACCP principles). Time management – Coordinated multiple orders simultaneously while consistently meeting service time targets. Inventory management – Assisted with stock control, ordering supplies, reducing waste, and monitoring food costs. Quality control – Ensured every meal met McDonald's quality and presentation standards. Team collaboration – Worked closely with front-of-house and management to maintain efficient service.

Cons

High-pressure environment, especially during peak meal times. Long periods of standing and physically demanding work. Fast-paced workflow requiring constant multitasking. Irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Hot kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, and grease. Repetitive food preparation tasks. Managing staffing shortages or employee turnover can be stressful. Balancing food quality, speed, and customer satisfaction simultaneously. Tight labor and food cost targets.
