Pros

Good for a short step in your career. Work from home flexibility is great. Plan on using company for education and experience to quickly get a better job outside the organization. Good compensation.

Cons

Long-term career growth is difficult. Layoffs seem almost constant. I worked in HIT for 8 years at the company and I witnessed approximately 500 layoffs in my respective business units. At a minimum, there are layoffs at the end of every fiscal year. They typically rehire cheaper, less experienced workers a few months later. It is not uncommon to find an McK employee who was fired only to be rehired a few months later. It's a strange (stockholder driven) way to do business. Employees are just a number no matter what management says. I was recently laid off after 8 years with the company. My last performance review exceeded expectations and I was above average relative to my team. Many of the layoffs are not performance based. In my case, I had just enrolled in graduate school (nights and weekends) and I think that was the catalyst. Most of the time, they prefer employees who will stay in their current position and growth is discouraged. Work-life balance is also challenging. Most management expects you to work long hours and there is little reward. The more you perform, the more work you receive. In the weeks leading up to my layoffs, I was averaging 60 hour weeks. The night before my layoff I worked until 11 PM. The following morning, I was laid off by 2 strangers. My manager didn't even join the call. As I said, if you work for McK you are just a number. Do not expect any loyalty. I wouldn't advise being loyal to the company either. Get what you need and move on.
