Pros

Good benefits, pet care discounts, specialist availability, and opportunities to learn. There are also locations all over the US now and relocation is always an option if you're the travelling type!

Cons

In the specific location I was employed, the hospital director came from a background of very little veterinary knowledge. When faced with difficulty in understanding how critical care medicine works or the majority of anything outside of general medicine for that matter, she instead would be defensive and angry, furthering the already heavy tension that comes with this profession. In my experience, you only advanced if you aligned EXACTLY with the hospital director's agenda which, more times than not, was to place all of her personal friends and colleagues she once worked with in the managerial circle. If you weren't part of that conglomerate--even with the right attitude and experience, you likely would be overlooked and eventually pushed out. In addition, if you ever challenged her in regards to ideas or made suggestions on how to potentially better something in your department, you were looked as a pot stirrer. The only suggestions this woman ever entertained where those who mirrored her exact model. I have many friends in the field who worked at other MedVet locations that did not have the same experience and for that reason alone, I will not speak ill of the company in general. My review is specific to the hospital in which I was employed.
