Pros

Media Temple used to be a great place to work. Bagel Mondays (catered breakfast every Monday), bring your dog to work, lots of happy hour events and general events that promoted a collaborative company culture and provided unique bonding experiences. Most of these perks have disappeared or lessened within the past year. 401K (and matching) and Health plans are about the only perks left. If you are going into marketing or creative, you will get fair compensation. Other departments, not so much.

Cons

Where do I begin? The biggest thing that is quite noticeable is the blatant discrimination within the company. If you are a female or someone of an ethnic background (i.e. not white) you're at a major disadvantage in this company. Also, compensation fairness varies from department to department. Marketing and Creative seem to be paid fairly, but the hard working devs and engineers are making way less than what they are worth at competitors or any other start up in the LA area. Secondly, there is no trust within anyone in the building. Don't say anything you wouldn't want someone else to hear. Things travel fast within the company. Now, if you decide to try and speak out against any of it, management will take it personally and do whatever it takes to have you dismissed. I have watched countless employees "let go" or "forced to resign" because they decided to go to GoDaddy HR regarding Media Temple issues. And if you try to go to GoDaddy HR regarding Media Temple HR, they will just direct you to reach out to your own department. This allows higher level Media Temple employees to be protected, and not be held accountable for their own actions. The company is trying to grow too quickly, and it's hurting everyone. There has been a distinct pattern of either hiring people into roles they are not qualified for, or GoDaddy assigning their own employees to Media Temple positions - causing a large conflict of interest internally. HR also has a skewed perspective on anyone from Customer Support who wants to move to another department. Several hiring managers have said that "CS employees are worthless and have no potential" and will bar them from moving out of their positions. This obviously is causing a high turn over rate as employees are frustrated they don't have a future with the company. The biggest gripe about Media Temple is the new office location. Most of the employees are based in cheaper areas of LA (Downtown LA, Burbank, Koreatown, West Hollywood, etc.). Leadership and the President have tried time and time to convince everyone that the office move was done in their best interest, and how big of a "tech hub" the location is. Well, it's not. The location only benefits the President of the company. In fact, for most employees it has increased commute time by 40-60+ minutes.
