Pros
onsite cafeteria with reasonably priced healthy food. Stable industry and secure company. Privately family owned with no debt. Room for advancement in some departments. New grads interested in sales, product management and marketing are recruited, given a lot of responsibility and a big title making it is a great place to start a career. Customers are treated well, Medline will do anything to win and keep a customer. Workaholics are in paradise. Locations outside of corporate location have a better culture.
Cons
Lack of diversity, flexibility and work life balance. Owners condescendingly remind everyone what a great company it is and that the employees are part of their family yet they have little respect for personal time and employees actual families. Run very lean which causes employee burn out. Each division is run like a company within the company; this causes a lack of continuity and overall strategy. Pay and benefits not market competitive. Bonus structure is used as a recruiting technique but difficult to achieve in most positions becuase each division and department are run as company within a company so bonus goals for support positions/departments needed work with the divisions conflict with the division bonus goals. Disorganized decision making that is so fast paced it causes a shoot first aim later mentality.
