Pros

Free mediocre lunch and a good CRA training program, if you can survive living in constant fear of getting fired over something minuscule, like not being constantly active on Skype. Crossing paths with other past Medpace employees and bonding by swapping Medpace horror stories.

Cons

I worked for Medpace as a CRA a couple of years ago. Reading the recent reviews, it’s apparent that things haven’t changed. The only pro of Medpace is their CRA training program, which few other CROs seem to offer. This comes in handy when you’re bombarded with messages from CRA recruiters with exponentially better job opportunities once you get some experience under your belt. Medpace claims their compensation is on par with the industry standard, yet my offer from another CRO was nearly twice my Medpace salary. Medpace justifies these comically low base salaries with their travel bonus program, while most CROs offer both higher salaries and similar travel bonus programs. During my time at Medpace, it was clear that upper management sees their employees as nothing more than expendable cash cows. COVID-19 highlighted these issues even more as Medpace was one of the few CROs that laid off employees while most other CROs not only avoided layoffs, but continued to hire. Additionally, Medpace is the only CRO that my colleagues and I know of that compelled CRAs to travel throughout the pandemic. Other CROs put a hold on all company travel to ensure company safety. During the height of the pandemic, the CEO flat out said during a quarterly meeting that “if you’re not willing to travel right now, you aren’t doing your job.” This goes to show that while other CROs prioritize their CRAs health and safety, Medpace is fueled by selfishness and greed. Unless you’re desperate to get your foot in the door within clinical research, stay far away.

Wow! We are very taken back and saddened to hear about your experience with Medpace. Although we are disappointed to hear that you had a negative experience within the organization, we understand that the high standards to which we ask our employees to excel at are not for everyone. This is what we believe distinguishes us from other CROs. We work hard to ensure we are place that attracts employees not just for the short term, but are a place that our associates can grow in their career. During the uncertainty of COVID-19, we did allow our staff to work remotely for 2 months to ensure the safety of our employees and communities. We have slowly started re-opening our offices to a staggered schedule at 50% capacity. Although we had maintained our full workforce with full pay for the initial weeks of the various lockdowns, despite the fact that many of our positions cannot be performed if our campus is not open, unfortunately this is not a sustainable long-term option. It was a very difficult decision to release some of our on-campus staff, and we hope that the severance packages offered to them will help in part to sustain during a difficult economic time for everyone. And you seem to have some bad information regarding travel during the pandemic! We did suspend all non-essential travel and CRAs in particular switched to virtual site visits and remote monitoring. As travel restrictions have lifted we have resumed some essential travel - including monitoring visits. As you mentioned, we are extremely proud of our CRA training program (PACE) and have seen incredible success and collaboration it provides between our CRAs and management. It is apparent Medpace was not the best fit for you. We wish you well in your future endeavors.

Pros

Coworkers are willing to help you and answer questions.

Cons

Abysmal pay for industry standards. Work will be piled on continuously. More and more studies. Forced to present impossible timelines. And then you have to speak to why these timelines were not met after the fact when it's outside of your control. Travel expectations thrown at you with a couple days notice. CEO micromanages the entire company. They track when you badge in and badge out of the building. You have to badge out to exit. Upper management throws you under the bus in front of sponsor despite agreeing with you in prep call and telling you they will have your back. People here work crazy long hours late into the evening and think it's normal.
