Pros

Upward mobility is constant as Meijer is opening many stores every year. Emphasis on respect and kindness toward fellow employees and customers Great health insurance benefits Terrific 401 plan - very smart investing that pays off Will work around part-time employee schedule requirements Most stores become unionized. Higher pay; but can limit increases based on performance Ranking of employees based on attendance, job performance, attitude towards others, etc helps to weed out those who underperform or aren't suited to Meijer's customer service- oriented philosophy and constant stock replenishment expectations.

Cons

After stores open, there is the usual attrition of employees and positions go unfilled with extra work and expectations landing on shoulders of remaining employees Emphasis on grocery side of business; General Merchandise (GM) and Service teams seem to have most turnover due to low hours during slow weeks; lack of pay increases based on performance

Pros

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
