Pros

Job Security. Hospitals will always need PCA's. The role of a PCA has some basic responsibilities; taking vitals, assisting nurses in delegated tasks and patient care, and light charting. It's also incredibly versital depending on which unit I work in, I'm assigned to two units and often floated to a third unit as needed.

Cons

I've seen incredibly hard working PCA's and incredibly lazy PCA's. My PRO for this hospital is "job security", not only because we are well needed and utilized, but also because administration (in my unit) does not seem to address the lazy ones who break rules, move slowly, are disrespectful, and should be terminated. It's disappointing to see since I am one of the hard working PCA's. The hourly rate is also ridiculous for as hard as we are expected to work. Maybe that's why there are so many lazy PCS's on my floor? I commend my fellow hard working PCA's; we make very little for what we give back.

Pros

Quality care. Patient focused. Room for growth depending on skill but sometimes based on who you know which is a con. Lots of great providers who really care.

Cons

A lot of politics and favortism. People get promoted in leadership that don't deserve it which makes for a miserable experience for those working with them . Some senior leaders are disrespectful, overly demanding, disregard others time and effort, manipulative, aggressive, belittling, don't understand the workload of others, inflict punishment based on their feelings or because they want to, do things for their own benefit and are dishonest.
