Pros
Lab management works with the schedule of the employees. Lab management gives ample time to complete duties. Lab management interacts with employees to keep the employees updated with current lab information. Lab employees are very competent in their jobs. Salary/pay is competitive with experience and education. When phlebotomists are short-staffed, some units collect their own specimens.
Cons
Some, not all, nursing staff do not extend respect to the lab employees. The nursing staff tend to "look down their nose" at the lab employees. Many nurses do not know that the lab staff have degrees (Doctorates, Masters, Bachelors, and Associates) and are nationally certified. Some clinical staff may not order lab tests as they should. Some nursing staff push back on receiving critical values.
