Pros

Menards has a welcoming environment. Their pay rate is higher than average compared to other stores I have looked into working for (probably because in some departments you work with machinery). I started at $9.50/ hr when I was Part-Time, and now I make $11.75/hr by becoming Full-Time and getting my 10 cent raises every 3 months for the first year (which everyone gets). Training is provided to you when you begin working at Menards to help you better understand the product you are selling. Unlike your usual retail stores, you are placed in one of the departments Menards has, from there, it is your responsibility to learn as much about your product so that you can help guests with their project and get the sale. Sounds intimidating for some people, but it's actually extremely easy! Everyone who works at Menards is super nice and is willing to help when ever you may need it.

Cons

Rules are strict when you become Full-Time and up. Once you have a position above Part-Time or Casual Part-Time, it is expected for you to act like a manager (even though you are not, for example: Full-time). You gain more responsibility, more pressure is on you to solve larger guest issues, munch longer shifts, and last but not least; it is required that you have a COMPLETE open availability. So for example, if you go to college and have classes from 6am-10am, you automatically can't go full time, which is ridiculous. They do this because their goal is to keep and progress with the same employee in hopes they soon become an assistant manager, then a department manager, then an assistant General manager, ect. Basically swallowing and trapping you into the depths of Menards forever.

Pros

40+ Hours per week of work guaranteed.

Cons

A toxic work environment can lead to termination without warning. Senior management prioritizes their interests and the company’s well-being, often disregarding employees’ rights and legal obligations. HR’s role is to protect senior management and the company, potentially at the expense of employees’ rights. Senior management continually chooses to a blind eye to wrong doing of favored employees, while knowingly prioritizing punishment of lower employees using fabricated policies that aren’t actually within store policy and procedures. Lack of accountability, lack of transparency, and lack of integrity run rampant with in the store and company. Unethical hiring practices, and weaponized incompetence to justify the out right gaslighting of your financial income and incentives. Pay deductions common place.
