Pros
The compensation package was OK.
Cons
Managing at Menards was not managing at all. At Menards managing is merely checking boxes on a work to do list generated at the corporate level. I never felt like I had to think and, looking around at my peer group, I realized that all of us were merely drones checking off an agenda that we didn't come up with. Competence is not rewarded, in fact, the more competent you are in management, the less well off you will be long term. Not understanding numbers, hiding behind policy, not understanding supply chain etc. the list of what we don't know as Menards "Managers" greatly exceeds the list of what we do know. The time spent there was a complete waste, Menards is essentially a smaller and more regional Wal-mart.
