Pros

The most supportive environment I have ever worked in. Colleagues are wonderful, always willing to stop what they are doing to help another engineer out. Executive team cares deeply about R&D and puts resources into making device improvements that really do help customers/patients. Most people leave the office by 5pm, so you won't feel pressured to work long hours regularly. Overtime is sometimes needed due to short-term project needs, but if you don't repeatedly overcommit yourself those will be short-term situations, not the normal state of work. (Disclaimer - they will certainly let you overcommit yourself if you want to volunteer for more work, so don't do that if you want to keep your work-life balance). People take the impact of the medical device products seriously and care about quality. Keeping the patient in mind is truly part of the culture. Managers and supervisors are selected based on actually being good team leaders and caring about their teams. I felt well-supported by the managers I worked under. Engineers who want to stay technical individual contributors can do that and still be respected and promoted in that way.

Cons

Traditional 8am-5pm in office expectations - there is definitely flexibility, such some people work 7am - 4pm, some teams work 4 10 hour-days, managers are understanding about occasional changes to schedule - but in the modern world of super-flexible work-from-home some people might find it constraining. Its a medical device company, so there is some tedious work involved, but that is critical to making safe devices. There can be a lot going on, most people are on multiple projects and pulled in many directions at once. Just communicate clearly when you are overloaded and most managers will try to solve the problem.

Pros

Dedicated employees, meaningful work, strong technical talent, and a collaborative environment focused on product.

Cons

Communication between leadership and the production floor can sometimes be indirect, resulting in assumptions, delays, and avoidable rework. More hands-on engagement from management would improve efficiency and alignment. Raises are practically nonexistence. Whatever salary you start, be sure to be happy with it for the next few years or be prepare to switch company.
