Pros
Few. They try to focus on the pay and how amazing railroad retirement is to get you in the door. It’s not as glamorous as they make it seem and the wages are well below any similar craft outside of a railroad environment.
Cons
Extremely toxic environment. Nepotism and favoritism are the key to excelling here. If you’re not related to someone or a brown noser you have zero future or growth opportunity. Hourly employees are treated like second class citizens, especially by management. You will be treated poorly here. This place can’t keep employees, especially in the mechanical department. The unions do nothing for the employees except collect their dues payments. Unions have zero contract bargaining power since railroads aren’t allowed to strike. The organization takes full advantage of this. If this place wasn’t government funded it wouldn’t exist. You’ve been warned.
