Pros

I've been working at Metrohealth for over 4 years, which is a relatively short period of time compared to many of the other employees here, and there is a reason for that kind of retention - the culture here is rare to find, it's people-centered. It's not just about the caring for patients, which is of course the highest priority, but it's about promoting a supportive, caring mind-set through the organization. A lot of organizations have mission statements and values but my experience with Metrohealth is that those things are practiced every day by staff and it shows. Being in Information Services (our IT department) I get to work directly with all departments, from EVS, Public Safety, Human Resources and Clinical staff, and throughout, everyone holds the concepts of 'Service to others' and 'Teamwork' to the highest regards. What brought me here to do this review was my experiences over the past few months; I wanted to emphasize how this culture has helped us during the COVID-19 pandemic; very early on it was clear that changes were necessary to prepare ourselves for what was coming and steps were taken quickly by various departments. While the pandemic is nowhere near over, our ability to adapt quickly makes me very confident and happy to be working here! I would absolutely recommend applying to anyone who is looking to join an organization where people come first.

Cons

None that I can think of.

Pros

Working for a Safety Net hospital system is a great cause! Home-spun management Working with doctors, clinicians, Sr executives, and C-suite is the best part

Cons

EPMO management is weak and ingrown, lacking experience with people, close-minded, and cannot discern second-handed information from fact. EPMO management does not empower their people. EPMO is openly Anti-Agile and non-collaborative, specifically reprimanding collaboration between departments. Leadership is lacking because EPMO manangement cannot get their focus off "self" and on to others. EPMO was a good organization when Sr management had direct oversight of the department. Since then, EPMO management is adolescent in its Capability Maturity Model Integration: Junior manager has less overall management and/or project experience than any single team member or peer, thus creating a non-supportive environment. Weakness: Manager title among VP peers puts EPMO at a disadvantage and weakens their voice in the organization. EPMO is further weakened by lack of promotion and recognition by Sr management/CIO across the organization so project managers must "fight" clients for the right to manage projects, creating an adversarial relationship.
