Pros
The culture of Metromile is smart and humble, including very down to earth C-level. Team members enjoy being at work and working with each other. There's a sense of ownership in the company, and everyone is very dedicated to making Metromile successful. Money is spent responsibly and not too frugally. Anything you need to be successful within reason is encouraged. Leadership has vision and philosophy for success. Leadership insists in having good work-life balance and it's reflected by the environment. The Metromile product right now is car insurance, but there's a vision on expanding the idea of the car experience in new ways, which will be exciting. There is also massive growth potential as the product expands into new states. Niceties include highly competitive salary with typical stock options based on level, free Kaiser HMO (vision $2/month and dental $10/month), free One Medical with PPO option, corporate discounts through third-party, subsidized commuter ($125/month) with additional tax free, $50/month wellness, free Eat Club MWF with a pizza/wings/beer happy hour on Fridays, frequent celebration, team offsites, curated snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and beer, and many random treats from team members.
Cons
While it's a mature startup, there is room to better structure processes, and to optimize what each department does. Because everyone is focused on making Metromile successful, they may not always focus the right problems in the right areas at the right time. Recent new leaders and new positions show that Metromile recognizes to continue to grow and scale, they need strong talent. There's a lot of work to get to a point where everything is more cohesive. Could have free vision and dental, and lunch on TTh.
