Pros

- There is a lot of work to be done. As an entry level position, you will be overworked, which I liked because of the exposure to all kinds of projects. - Great benefits: health insurance, pension (if you plan on staying for more than 10 years), 401k and 475 (MTA plan). - Its a city job: once you are in, you can stay there until retirement. - Only required to work 35 hours a week, and they allow overtime pay. - There are only two kinds of people that will benefit from this job. The first one is the fresh college graduate looking to get at least 1 or 2 years experience and then moves on to private companies. And the second is the employee who is only trading waters and wants to coast doing nothing until retirement.

Cons

- There are too many people working there that either need to retire or should be dismissed. Too many people doing nothing. - Raises don't come around too often. You have to either pass your licenses or threaten to quit to get an offer. - Salary is minimal. I had to work overtime just to be able to pay my rent and school loans. - Management hires incompetent people without proper educational or experience background check. - Too many foreign employees. Better have a second language other than English. - Too many old school mentality employees. "If it worked in the old days then keep using it!" - Lack of coordination between disciplines. This creates a huge waste of time and money. - Disciplines make changes without informing other disciplines. Equipment layouts are constantly changing location.
