Pros

Good stipend, hours were not bad, diversity of work, respect from my peers and professors. East Lansing is a great place to live. Diverse graduate student base will expose you to new cultures and gives you a great international perspective.

Cons

Needed better career counseling for people interested in pursuing academic careers. I left after my Graduate degree because Ph.D. path and subsequent careers were unclear.

Pros

The HPC facilities (HPCC, ICER) offer excellent access for research affiliates colpaborating with university researchers, with Slurm job scheduling and a well-managed site-specific wiki.

Cons

Annual account renewal can be a bit bureacratically clunky at times, and the Research Affiliate may have to coordinate with multiple departments and the associated PI if a system update breaks part of a legacy system.
