Pros

Cost of living in the community makes a graduate salary quite livable, and university culture means there are numerous low-cost or free events. Being such a large university, there's almost an unlimited number of events and organizations for finding other like-minded people.

Cons

Its a huge, state university, beset with the typical bureaucratic nightmares and insane academic politics ones would expect.

Pros

The HPC facilities (HPCC, ICER) offer excellent access for research affiliates colpaborating with university researchers, with Slurm job scheduling and a well-managed site-specific wiki.

Cons

Annual account renewal can be a bit bureacratically clunky at times, and the Research Affiliate may have to coordinate with multiple departments and the associated PI if a system update breaks part of a legacy system.
