Pros

They have good benefits and we aren't expected to work much more than 40 hours per week, which is nice when you have a family. Also, there is a lot of diversity on campus.

Cons

Lansing, Michigan isn't the most thriving city, but most people have lived in the area their entire lives. The politics and beaurocracy within the University are surprising.

Pros

The HPC facilities (HPCC, ICER) offer excellent access for research affiliates colpaborating with university researchers, with Slurm job scheduling and a well-managed site-specific wiki.

Cons

Annual account renewal can be a bit bureacratically clunky at times, and the Research Affiliate may have to coordinate with multiple departments and the associated PI if a system update breaks part of a legacy system.
