Pros

Salary and benefits and students

Cons

I worked in the College of Nursing for 9 months. I was shocked how the leadership team, HR and other internal support, were treated and how certain individuals were talked to on a daily basis. There is so much dysfunction in MSU Nursing and the health colleges. The current dean has had multiple OIE complaints against her that go ignored by MSU. The EVP (her boss) is known for his reputation of yelling and cursing people, in addition to unscrupulous behavior. The previous dean was discriminated against. This school is not a safe place for women and other minorities and it is riddled with layers of dsyfunction. Some positions have been open for a year or more because no one will accept them internally or in Michigan given the reputation of this school. Please think of your mental health and potential of success before taking a role here.

Pros

The HPC facilities (HPCC, ICER) offer excellent access for research affiliates colpaborating with university researchers, with Slurm job scheduling and a well-managed site-specific wiki.

Cons

Annual account renewal can be a bit bureacratically clunky at times, and the Research Affiliate may have to coordinate with multiple departments and the associated PI if a system update breaks part of a legacy system.
