Great place to work but horrible power structures in place - Library Assistant IV Michigan State University Employee Review

Pros

The benefits MSU provides are top-tier, especially in MI. The work at the library itself is undemanding and relatively free of stress. Pay for the area is decent in terms of cost of living.

Cons

The existing supervisors and people in charge are fans of remote work (for them), holding people accountable for their actions (as long as they're not also supervisors or managers of their department. In that case, accountability goes out the window and they do whatever they want), and if you make someone in a power clique angry (Library Human Resources, anyone in the administrative section, any of the supervisors or unit heads) by bringing departmental hypocrisies, inefficiencies, and time left by managers to light then you're on the no-go list in terms of promotions, exceeds expectations on reviews, and being shut-out of other opportunities in the library.
