Pros

Vacation time is better than SIAL If you are a competitor to our company, then former SIAL sites are great way to recruit skilled employees that are looking for another company.

Cons

Being a former SIAL employee Merck KGaA has made it perfectly clear to us that we are second class employees. Two years in a row they beat us down further by explaining how the original Merck employees--the true Merck employees--get bonuses, thanks in part to our hard work, while we get nothing for our hard work. Two years ago they said we would be part of the bonus plan and that proved to not be true. It's 20 days from the next year's paycheck, as in business year, and no one knows if we are getting a raise or how much, but we do know that the true Merck KGaA employees are also getting bonuses. They compound this disaster by not informing any SIAL management in advance of this email and lack of bonuses. T his means they get everyone's hope up with a bonus and then site managers are given the burden of destroying morale by telling them we are not getting bonuses. This also speaks of their complete lack of transparacy and care of all of the former SIAL employees--lower management and underlings alike. Under SIAL the morale was not good but I never thought it would or could get this bad. The Merck KGaA management doesn't seem to care and has made this disaster far worse by remaining dead silent while the fallout from the second class employees grows louder; calling them out for the unwarrented insult and slap in the face. Nothing has gotten better under the new company and management has found a way to take a beaten down work force and get them more angry with the upper leadership. This is lunacy. Avoid working at any former SIAL site unless you want to be treated as a second class employre while hearing how wonderful the original Merck KGaA employees are treated and valued. But if you can get a job at an original Merck KGaA, than do it because they actually treat those workers really well--it's a shame they have rub it in our second class faces though.

Pros

Great benefits, there’s flexibility when you need it, and the’s a significant amount of PTO. There is a lot of growth and development opportunities, as in learning new skills or strengthening skills.

Cons

There is a lot of restructuring happening, which often results in teams having to do the work of many without being compensated appropriately. This results in longer days, burn out, and feeling undervalued. There is a lot of encouragement for growth, but the actual growth/promotion part doesn’t seem to happen from leadership side. There is a lot of room for process improvements but too many teams work in silos and don’t want to work together so processes don’t get improved.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and for your continued commitment to MilliporeSigma over more than three years. We are glad that the benefits, flexibility, PTO, and learning opportunities have been meaningful to you. We are sorry that recent changes have affected your day-to-day experience. As a company with a long-term perspective and a strong sense of responsibility towards our people, organizational changes are never taken lightly. We are mindful that the impact on workload and team dynamics can feel significant at an individual level, and we understand that the experience on the ground does not always reflect the full picture of what those decisions are intended to achieve. Your points about career development follow-through and cross-team collaboration are noted, and we continue to work on improving how we support employees through change, how we deliver on development commitments, and how we enable better ways of working across teams. As a current employee, we would encourage you to share your experience through our Employee Engagement Survey, as your input directly helps shape the priorities we focus on.
