Pros

An excellent group of people to work alongside with diverse cultures and backgrounds that makes for an interesting experience. The products and technology are unique and interesting.

Cons

Disorganized from the top down. Constant management shifting within the company (move this supervisor to this area, shift this one over there, etc. Why? No discernable reason, evidenced by the lack of value added when these changes occur). Projects start without a clearly defined leader or plan that results in the project losing momentum and falling apart, only to be kickstarted a year later and follow the same process as previously mentioned. The only company I have worked for that does not have a minimum pay for the tiers, e.g., you can be promoted from Operator 1 to Expert 1 and still be paid at the operator level. A total lack of recognition for major accomplishments that impact the site, unless you know the right people. Lastly, there is far too many managers and supervisors than needed to get the job done. In this regard, I feel there is a focus on checking DEI boxes rather than placing people in management positions based on the experience, skill and effectiveness they bring.

Pros

A strong entry-level opportunity that allowed me to build a solid foundation in the biotechnology industry. I appreciated the job stability, benefits, and structured work environment. The position also gave me valuable experience working in a regulated laboratory, following SOPs, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to the safety testing of biologics and vaccines.

Cons

One challenge of the Associate Scientist role was that advancement became limited after reaching a certain level unless a higher-level position became available. The work could also involve long or unpredictable hours because some assays had strict timelines and could not always be paused. At times, overtime was restricted even when an assay required additional attention, which made scheduling and workload management more difficult.
