Pros

The pay is reasonable. There is a real bond with most of your co-workers The benefits are fairly decent The 12 hour Shifts

Cons

They have "blinders" on when it comes to achieving Magnet Status They often don't care if a Patient is inappropriate for a particular Unit- it seems as if it's all about filling a bed They disregard the opinions of Staff, who might have a lot more experience in the particular speciality They disregard the fact that Staff have or try to have a life outside of the job, again because of Magnet Status fever. Staff is overwhelmed and stressed with all the demands of Administration They spent money on a fancy fountain and new building and then hosted a party to show it off to the elite in Orange County, but blame the economy for cutting back on Staff Staff have an increasingly low morale

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
