Pros

Organization well recognized. Camaraderie between co-workers on unit. Health insurance is good. Can use vacation time when I want it. Cafeteria improving its healthy food options.

Cons

Poor communication between departments. Management is a bit aloof. Not getting an adequate lunch break - being paged in the middle of breaks. Lazy staff. I have had a problem with this in regards to nursing assistants, discharge planners, secretaries, and RNs. Little room for advancement. Management makes little to changes when problems arise.

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
