Pros

Existing client base provides excellent exposure to public sector, local government, defined benefit plans, and some genuinely nice people.

Cons

MissionSquare recently outsourced website and back-office functions to SS&C. Participants wait hours on hold at 800#, employers cannot process payroll, and the Retirement Plan Specialist, with no authority or access, and low pay, must solve every problem because they are client-facing and the company has decided to have them answer the increasing overflowing angry callers. Nobody wants to deal with extremely frustrated, angry, and upset participants, but the Retirement Plan Specialist must deal with it daily. Avoid RPS role at all costs.

Pros

The people and culture are generally supportive, and it’s easy to find teammates willing to help you succeed. The work feels mission-driven, which adds a sense of purpose and makes day-to-day projects feel meaningful. Overall, it’s a stable environment where you can build solid experience!

Cons

Some processes can take a bit longer due to multiple layers of review and approvals, which is understandable in a structured environment. This can occasionally slow momentum when timelines are tight, but with clear communication and planning it’s usually manageable. Over time, you learn how to navigate the cadence and keep projects moving forward.
