Pros

• The workplace environment is polite, friendly, collaborative, and supportive. People generally treat each other with respect. • Benefits are competitive, including a good 401k plan. • The firm is recognized as a growing organization with significant potential for continued expansion.

Cons

• Japanese expats in management roles have lack of experience supervising U.S. employees, which leads to under evaluated performance reviews and restricts career progression for U.S. hired staff. • Because these expat managers have never reported to or been evaluated by U.S. leadership, they often lack a clear understanding of U.S. performance standards. This results in insufficient advocacy for promotions for U.S. employees. • U.S. hired Japanese employees face a glass ceiling, with limited advancement opportunities and a tendency to be treated as assistants by expat managers who dominate leadership positions. • Mizuho U.S. has a pattern of laying off employees with strong knowledge and experience, contributing to a sense of instability. Despite many years of service and extensive expertise, I never felt secure in my role.
