Pros

- Performance culture: Growth & career advancement is earned through merit and by exhibiting clearly defined behaviors rather than just factors like tenure. - Room for ownership: While success at Modern Animal depends on deep cross-functional collaboration, there are ample opportunities for self-starters to define the work and move the ball forward at will within their specific domains. - Interesting space & team: The company is comprised of smart people from a variety of diverse professional backgrounds who are tasked with solving challenging problems in a space that isn't all too familiar with change. It’s not uncommon for a veterinarian, an operator, and a data analyst to be in a meeting together finding common ground on something. That's pretty cool. - Clear mission: If nothing else, the company is crystal clear on its "why" and what it wants to accomplish for the veterinary profession. A common understanding of the company's mission & purpose is shared at every level of the organization, which is a unifying force and helpful heuristic for decision making that many other companies critically lack.

Cons

- Still experiencing some growing pains: meaningful investments still need to be made across the company to develop or automate many of the processes and systems that will be critical to the company's long-term capability to scale. This is to be expected at a company of Modern Animal's maturity, but does create occasional turbulence when a lack of sophistication in a certain area catches up to us. - Less of a con ~ but for people exploring roles specifically on the Support Team (HQ) it should be understood that working at Modern Animal really is not for everyone. The company is complex, the problems are hard, the expectations are high, and the pace is fast. Hiring managers for support team roles could be better at painting a picture of this to candidates earlier in the hiring process to filter out poor fits and mitigate mismatched expectations or pent up frustration further down the line.

Pros

I think the compensation is decent, with average hourly rate and medical insurance. Free and automatic Modern Animal membership which gives you discounts on product and services.

Cons

What you see on the outside, isn’t what it actually is on the inside! You see friendly faces and accommodating staff, assistants, and vets, but in truth, the workplace is hostile with demanding seniors and management! We are overworked, stressed, and we basically just drag ourselves to work because we signed a contract. But as soon as the contract’s done in six months or a year, most would end it there and leave! Though a few still tries and give it a chance, or maybe they have more patience and endurance than others, but they would still end up leaving after the next contract expires! No one makes it permanent here. It’s just unbearable. The animals could maybe absorb all the negativity, but dealing with everything and everyone here is exhausting!
