Pros

Monsoon recently has brought a new CEO into the company who is very market-driven and product-oriented. This means that there is a lot of work being done to retire technical debt, provide new functionality to customers, and understand how Monsoon can support sellers in adapting to the changing eCommerce ecosystem. The company has a wonderful culture. Everyone is very impact-oriented with a strong bias toward execution. The environment is quite jovial and collaborative and work-life balance is a first-class citizen.

Cons

As a privately held company, Monsoon must prioritize growth, but live within its means. This means that every manager is also an individual contributor, and in some cases, the "swim lanes" between job roles are often blurred. This is an ideal environment for some personality types, but if you're looking for really crisply defined roles and responsibilities, you may want to seek a larger company for which to work.

Pros

The people are great. They are smart and friendly and generally willing to help out when they can. The benefits are above average. Work schedule is flexible with regard to working from home when needed. You can have dogs in the office.

Cons

Management has not demonstrated the ability to maintain focus on a single plan for the future. Much of the downward spiral that was the last two years I would attribute to the constant thrashing of priorities as everyone was changing focus to work on the "new" big thing. The end result was that nothing got accomplished and all of the products were left woefully behind the competition. Communication is not as transparent as it could be. In a company this small, it is critical to keep everyone in the loop of what is happening. This was not always the case. Often things were simply not shared. Other times only half truths were shared or data was misrepresented. No one is asking to be at the table with the executives. All the employees are looking for is open communication about the direction of the company and the plans for the future.
