Pros
You are allowed, in-fact encouraged, to expand your role. The company needs new ideas and lets its employees try out new things. Management supports employees taking on projects, even outside their area of expertise, in order to try something new that will help the company grow. Risk taking (within boundaries of course) is rewarded, and no one is penalized for something going wrong (again within reason). Thus you can learn a new field while doing your normal day-to-day job. Everyone is constantly encouraged to grow. There is camaraderie amongst the employees and as you can see from past reviews, everyone likes the culture.
Cons
The company’s products are geared for a declining market segment, and the industry’s revenue model is changing, resulting in the company being less competitive. Updating the product is not financially feasible, so while the company makes a nice profit, that will eventually come to an end. The company has downsized over the past 6 months to reflect this reality and keep the business running as long as possible. However, employees from the “glory days” set a negative tone, blaming executives for events outside their control. This contributes to an unhelpful finger-pointing attitude.
