Business Outlook
Pros
The educational mission is strong. There was a good commitment to teaching and providing tools for student success.
Cons
There was no limit to how much service was requested of you. I am not sure if it was because of the stresses of being in that community, but there was an unnaturally high incidence of illness. There was very little faculty input in governance--even though there was a faculty council, their role was advisory. Once you were locked in to a salary, then it was difficult to get raises. There were people there who had remained static and a lot of salary compression vis a vis new hires. As it tries to increase its research profile, which is laudable, there were growing pains and conflicts with the teaching mission.
