Pros

Company has good and clear values, employee owned, staff are generally friendly and nice to work with. Bonus is good as is work/life balance. Quarterly reviews are good in theory as opposed to traditional annual reviews. Graduates are very well looked after.

Cons

Workload is not particularly varied, lots of rail and water mostly. HS2 is a big project for the team and you can be expected to be on it as long as needed. I was initially told I would be on it for 6 months part time and was on for three years full time often being told not to ask when coming off. The quarterly connected conversations are good in theory, sadly I would often set goals and objectives that could not be realised due to being on one long term project. It was a shame that I didn’t feel that I had a clear path to promotion and not to get feedback on how to achieve it.

Mott MacDonald Response

We appreciate you taking the time to provide a balanced reflection of your experience. It is good to know that you felt supported by colleagues and benefited from our values, ownership structure and our focus on a healthy work life balance. We also understand your concerns about extended time on major projects and how this limited your ability to pursue objectives set during connected conversations. Your feedback on the need for clearer communication about project length and more visible promotion routes is important and will be considered as we continue to strengthen our processes. Thank you for your honesty and for the positive impact you made during your years at Mott MacDonald.
