Pros
There is nothing positive about being in a Non Union position. Union position is far superior with the great benefits, job security, and the sick time. If you want to advance your career, this is not the place to do it since you would need to leave the Union. Non Union is great if you want a title but you'll need to pay dearly for your medical/ dental benefits with expensive copayments, no job security and with no pension. This is a no brainier but to stay content in an Union position. So, if you're ambitious, this hospital will now be suited for you because you would need to leave the Union.
Cons
If you are motivated to climb the career ladder, this is not the place to do it. Why? It means you would need to leave a Union position giving up the outstanding medical/dental benefits, a pension, job security, child care fund, etc...I left the Union and got a managerial position thinking it was best for my career. I was wrong and regret it ever since. As a non Union employee, I pay substantially more for my medical/dental benefits. There is no job security whatsoever. Also, my net amount on my check now is actually less due to the cost of benefits despite the increase in salary. Union position is the way to go if you stay here. You can always make up the salary descrepancy by getting a side job... The benefits in the Union are too great to give up... Trust me...
