9yLike most large, complex organizations, MultiCare is constantly evaluating which services are best provided internally and which are best provided by an outside “expert” resource. In the vast majority of cases, we have found that our own employees provide the highest quality, most cost-effective service. Outsourcing has been very limited over the past five years. Most recently, a decision was made to outsource much of the coding function, and several years ago Linen Services was outsourced. Last year, we made the decision to bring our Information Services Help Desk function back in-house after outsourcing it several years earlier. (Contrary to your post, the entire IS department was not outsourced.)
