Pros

It IS rocket science. Good benefits. Great reputation. Genuine interest in trying to develop work life balance. Good opportunities for advancement if you're an engineer. Excellent mentoring program though you have to seek it out. Good tuition reimbursement program.

Cons

The average tenure at the Lab is probably 15 - 20 years. This has created a rigid and entrenched culture. I was told I wouldn't be a JPLer until I'd been there at least 5 years and probably not until I'd been there 10. I spent a great deal of time feeling like an outsider and there were very few efforts made to make me feel welcome or to help integrate me into that culture.

Cons

Salary; Many restrictions, internal review, export-control considerations, and delays before publication.
