Pros

Stuff you work on actually in space taking data and images. Work is technically challenging and totally worthwhile. Other engineers are smart and fun. You feel a sense of pride that is difficult to match at other locations.

Cons

Something happens when good engineers here get promoted to management, and they totally start sucking terribly. Managers recruited from other places like Lockheed Martin are even worse. It was totally demoralizing to see incredibly talented and kind engineers retiring with bitterness after devoting 25+ years of their lives developing incredible technology for the space program. From my perspective, this all happened completely from ridiculously poor management.

Excellent fit for superconducting detectors, KIDs/TKIDs, cryogenic readout, microwave systems, and quantum/space sensing. JPL has work in superconducting devices, microwave readout, quantum detectors, and advanced sensors.

Cons

Salary; Many restrictions, internal review, export-control considerations, and delays before publication.
