Pros

The ability to conduct science is unrivaled at NIEHS. The core facilities and expertise and equipment available are fantastic. In addition, the salary is typically better than .edu postdoc positions and the health insurance is free for you and your family and is better than the FTE government insurance.

Cons

Make sure you branch out and identify good mentors, as well as take advantage of the numerous networking functions. It can be easy to get lost in the crowd if you aren't serious about your postdoc.

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
