Pros

Plenty of opportunities for those in the "scientific positions" (educational opportunities, conference attendance in many wonderful domestic & international countries), whereas very limited opportunities for administrative staff. I have to admit, at least where I work, definitely flexible work hours as many staff commute into work. Pay is considerably low for many years of hard work and dedication.

Cons

If you are not a PhD or MD (scientist) you are looked down upon. There is no developmental plan for advancement for administrative staff (at least at my office).

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
