Pros

Highly stimulating environment with considerable resources to perform top notch cancer research. Researchers for around the world work or come to present their work in seminars and conferences. Ideal place to translate basic research to clinical application.

Cons

The salary is less than in the private sector. Government funds are constantly cut, making harder and harder to achieve a full time equivalent position beyond 8 years of work at the NIH.

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
