Pros

With still a lot of federal money there is abundant resources and infrastructure in place to do great science. Most scientists are dedicated researchers and are very collegial and collaborative. With the shear size of the NIH there is likely an expert in almost every biomedical research field.

Cons

The price of federal funding under the congress is heavy bureaucracy. There are many, many rules and regulations. Every time someone in the government did something wrong the whole government over-reacts and set another set of new rules. Very cumbersome. Many of the management team members are more concerned about liability than anything else.

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
