Pros

Government benefits... Office is close to my house.

Cons

The area i work in does not recognize your education, experience, work ethic, or quality of work. Every are has its own Silo. So whomever you work for dictates your work load, advancement etc.... I thought the government would offer a fair wage for work performed. I see people around me working like crazy and others with the same job or job title doing very different work loads etc... I thought that our Federal government would at least offer a fair job for work well done and not get as much from their employees as possible for the least salary (low bid used to win in the government and I thought those times had changed-guess not).

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
