- Guaranteed 40 hours a week pay. - Low barrier to entry.
Cons
- No work life-balance. It's tough to plan a doctor's visit because you won't know what hours you'll be working until the night before. - Split shifts. For example 4:30am to 9:16am and 3:22pm to 8:59pm (this was a real shift). Sometimes it's worse, where you finish at 10pm and start at 4:30am. - Management is hostile and rigid. - Preferential treatment given to favored employees. - They'll get your hours wrong (a lot). It's almost a part-time job checking the books to make sure they're not underpaying you. It's another battle to get them to fix it. - Signage printed through the building written by illiterate staff. This isn't to insult anyone— it's just truly shocking how poorly written and passive aggressive the signs are. I'd often send pictures to my wife and we'd laugh over it constantly. - The union sucks. Management and the union might as well be besties. - Union fees and retirement deductions combined are about 6.8% of your pay (at Ironbound bus garage at least). - Roaches everywhere. They crawl on you while you're driving.
