Pros

The insurance is the only good thing about this place... and it's the unions insurance not nlmks.. the pay is pretty good.... kind of...

Cons

Horrible management, liars, will screw you over every chance they get (I'm not joking) lay off after lay off.. 60+ hours one week lay off the next.. joke of a bonus plan, never know what your schedule is gonna be, like 4 "managers" for ever 1 worker..

NLMK USA values its employees and strives to provide a healthy and safe work environment. We continue to make continuous improvements that make NLMK a preferred employment choice. This is evidenced by our safety performance, strong compensation packages and the fact that we have many long-term employees. Unfortunately, the steel industry, like many other businesses, is affected by the economy and the ups and downs of the market. When the market is strong, plenty of overtime is available to our employees. When the market slows down, there may be layoffs. We always strive to minimize such interruptions for our employees and layoffs are only implemented as a last resort. The current steel market conditions are good which permits stable working conditions for our employees.

Pros

Management team is highly adept at flexing to the ever changing environment. Great place to work. Most common statement we hear is that our employees feel like family.

Cons

The company continues to work on employee engagement. It takes a while to steer a large ship and as improvements are made, it feels like it takes too long to some.

Pros

I worked here for over 10 years as a salary employee and while no job is perfect, NLMK was pretty solid. It's the steel business so there are always ups and downs, but that also means that the pay is very competitive and the benefits are great. I think if you are considering a job, there are much worse places than NLMK to work.

Cons

The business model opens it up to tariff struggles and that can be worrisome. As a few other people mentioned, there is a lot of nepotism and that can be frustrating. Everybody has got their people right, and if you aren't one of them, its difficult to go anywhere. Also, many of the complaints on here reflect more on the union leadership than the actual management. The union leadership is less than stellar.
